Pain in the arse

We biked across the Golden Gate Bridge on Sunday. Biking in the city is a scary, scary thing. Do I sound like a country bumpkin? Look at all them cars, Wilbur! But seriously, there are a lot of cars. And trolleys. And buses.

So here are my theories on How to Ride a Bike in the Big City. You either proceed gingerly and check behind you before you turn, etc. (hopefully you can keep enough coordination to turn your head yet keep riding straight), or you JUST GO. You just do whatever you want and hope that the cars behind you are paying attention. Or, you ride behind someone who does that (for example, Peter), and hope that the cars behind him have left enough room for you to do the same thing.

Big smiles in the BART station

Gulls, scavenging for crabs

On the bridge, helmet straps flapping about

I haven't biked in a long time and had forgotten what kind of effects a couple hours in the saddle can have. Ouch.
